Genesis Circle
Fellowship and spiritual growth for women
The first women's group was organized here at Lindenwald in 1940 as the Women's Society of Christian Service (WSCS) and later became known as the United Methodist Women. Within the last 20 years the group name changed to Genesis Circle. Our group is changing along with our Lindenwald Community Church as we join the Global Methodist Church.
While in the past there have been up to seven different Small Groups or Circles in our church, we currently have one, Genesis Circle, with 20 members. Our meetings are on the Third Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm at church or local restaurants.
"We are a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative and supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church."
Our purpose is to know God and to that end our members are involved in Bible Studies both as participants and as teachers. We serve as Worship Leaders, as Prayer Team members, as members of the choir and the praise band. We are Stephen Ministers, we serve as Hostesses of The Welcome Center, and participate as members of the Altar Guild.
We develop a creative and supportive fellowship. Our Methodist Women’s group was one of the first "Small Groups" here at Lindenwald. In our circle, we provide a supportive Christian fellowship for any woman of the church. Once a year we help clean the church kitchen and prepare and serve various meals throughout the year as the need dictates. For example, our group helps with funeral dinners, Wednesday Night meals, as well as dinners for our local firefighters and educators.
We participate in the Global Ministries of the church. As individuals and in groups, we participate in outreach activities such as Treat Street, Pathways, Vacation Bible School, the Community Meal, and the Prayer Drive Thru. We are members of the Church Council, Missions Committee, and volunteer for various other church teams and offices including church treasurers.
Every year we prepare and deliver Christmas and/or Easter gifts for the Homebound members of our church. We also make significant contributions to Red Bird Mission in Kentucky and support the Otterbein Home in Lebanon. In 2021, our contributions to our local church increased as we contributed to Pastor’s Discretionary Fund via our Christmas Jars Collection.
